Prepare for the lesson

Before we start:

What to expect:

Costs:

Prior to commencement of any lesson, please ensure the following:

  • Bring your Drivers Licence and check it is still current (not expired)

  • You need to provide a Class 1 vehicle (Manual or Automatic car)

  • This vehicle has a current Warrant of Fitness (WOF), Registration and if it's diesel or EV, it has sufficient pre-paid Road User Charges (RUC).

  • If you are on a Learner Licence, your yellow ‘L’ Plates or stickers are in place, front & rear.

  • At least half a tank of fuel for up to an hour's driving

  • Tyres are in good condition and at the correct pressure.

  • Brake lights, indicators & horn are working

  • I will look over the vehicle in a pre-drive inspection together with the student, & then will give an initial explanation of the parts that need to be monitored to ensure your vehicle is always roadworthy for your use.

  • You should already have a reasonably good understanding of the requirements and rules described in the NZ Road Code.

  • Minimum of 3rd Party Insurance.

However, please note in terms of usual insurance, commercial or legal practice, the driver is always 100% responsible for any damage(s) incurred during any driving lesson(s) with any potential claims to be made in terms of your insurance policy. Steve accepts no liability or responsibility for any damage incurred during any lesson(s).

The appointment & what to expect:

  • I will discuss your current level of driving experience and then make a plan for you.

  • I can teach from the very beginning, for those who have never driven before, right through to those experienced drivers wanting a simple refresher session or to prepare for your next driving test.

  • If you already have some experience, we will go out on an initial driving assessment so I can establish what needs to be worked on, developed, or improved.

  • I am passionate about not just getting you prepared to pass a Restricted or a Full driving test, but developing safe habits that should become instinctive for you, every time you drive.

  • If you do the right thing, even when nobody is looking, then you have the best chance of being aware of your surroundings. This is key to avoiding surprises or being startled by anything that you come across. And neither should your actions startle or give concern for others around you.

  • My hourly rate, per lesson, is $60 â€‹

  • Payment is required at the end of each session. Cash or internet bank transfer is OK. Whichever payment method is easiest for you is OK with me. (It's all declared !!).

  • In order to keep my overheads down and pass on a very reasonable hourly rate to you, I do not provide a vehicle for you to learn to drive in.

  • It is preferable that I teach you in your usual daily-drive vehicle. This ensures you are familiar and comfortable with your own vehicle, rather than an occasional drive in mine.

  • An invoice will be pre-prepared and handed to you at the end of each lesson. This invoice can also be emailed to you if requested.
